07/10/2025 Instructional and Reference Librarian, William S. Richardson School of Law Library, Honolulu, HI

Need a little aloha in your life?
Love teaching legal research, helping students, and the occasional rainbow with your morning coffee? Then we’ve got good news: the William S. Richardson School of Law Library at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is looking for someone just like you—minus the umbrella (unless you’re into tropical downpours).

We’re hiring an Instructional and Reference Librarian—yes, it’s a tenure-track position, and yes, you get to live in paradise. We’re hiring at the Assistant or Associate level, depending on your experience and education. Bonus: tenure for librarians here doesn’t come with a mandatory scholarship requirement. That means no publish-or-perish—unless you’re into that sort of thing (in which case, we’ll cheer you on with lei and coffee).

You’ll be joining a unionized faculty with benefits that are genuinely worth bragging about: competitive salaries, regular raises, health plan choices that don’t require a PhD to decode, a pension and a professional development fund with your name on it. Oh, and did we mention free tuition for you and your spouse at UH? Yes, really.

Now let’s talk shop:
We’re a small, mission-driven law school in a Level 1 research institution, and we’re proud of our close-knit, diverse community. You’ll teach two small sections each spring of a required, two-credit legal research course for 1Ls—already aligned with the NextGen Bar. Expect problem-based learning that challenges students’ research and writing chops. You’ll also help craft new research problems and assessment tools for both our in-person and part-time Online JD Flex programs. And yes, we share materials—this isn’t a “reinvent the wheel on your own” kind of place.

Our team is collaborative, kind, and just the right amount of quirky. If you think research is fun, students are awesome, and you’d like to spend your workdays surrounded by palm trees and positivity, then we can’t wait to meet you.

Apply now—and bring your sense of humor (and sunscreen). 🌴📚🌈
