We are an IP  boutique seeking an experienced librarian to support our  litigation/transaction attorneys on a contract basis.  Role will require  candidate to prepare reports to directly assist attorneys with client pitches.   Projects may include, for example, profiling companies (e.g., revenue,  product lines, risk exposure) and researching new/mature technology segments  together with emerging markets.  Our firm does not have a physical  library so candidate will work from home unless a specific project or  assignment requires otherwise. The Santa Cruz County Law Library is seeking candidates for a part-time temporary Law Librarian position. This position will be filled for a limited term of approximately October 4, 2010 to June 24, 2011. This temporary position will report directly to the Self Help Center Managing Attorney and is not responsible for supervising other Law Library staff. All supervision will be done by the Self Help Center Managing Attorney. The tentative work schedule for the position will be Monday through Thursday from 11:30 to 4:30 and Fridays from 8:00 to 12:00. Some flexibility in the scheduling of hours may be possible. The Law Library will be closed on the fourth Friday of each month and from December 27, 2010 to January 4, 2011 because of superior court and county furloughs.

In this role, you will manage and support the Law Library's electronic resources with a strong proactive customer support orientation.  Typical duties will include acting as first-responder for all Library staff desktop support for PCs, printers, scanners and other peripherals and their software; installing, configuring and providing day-to-day technical support and maintenance of all library PCs and peripherals; and providing support and training to Library staff in desktop applications (Windows, Office, Outlook, browsers) and specialized software and applications (Millennium, OCLC, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Acrobat). You will also work as a key member of the Library Web Team to maintain and enhance the web pages and other electronic resources; function as the primary system admin for the Library's ILS (Innovative's Millennium system); assist the Library staff with set up and use of A/V computer equipment; keep current inventory listings of all Library computer equipment and peripherals; manage and follow up on all warranty and routine equipment replacement or repair requests; and work closely with other Hastings departments, especially IT, on special projects, routine tasks and continual improvement of technology initiatives. We'll rely on you to also take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the computer lab, act as first responder for all issues for the Student Computer Lab and public/student Library computers and peripherals, and monitor public/student kiosk PCs on a daily basis.

Requirements include experience in library systems, application programming, user support, systems analysis or equivalent.  We prefer 2+ years of college level course work in computer/information systems and 2 years of relevant work experience, however education in computer/information systems beyond 2 years can be substituted for 1 year of work experience.  Qualified candidates must also have a strong proactive, friendly and customer service orientation, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience using, installing, configuring and troubleshooting operating systems, hardware, networking and applications for PCs, and familiarity and preferably experience with managing library computer systems using Innovative Interfaces Inc. systems with Millennium. Experience with web design and authoring software is also necessary.  Highly desirable experience includes working with metadata, html, JavaScript, CSS, PHP/Perl/CGI, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and graphic design for print and Web. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

o       Provides reference and research services to faculty in support of their teaching and scholarship;

The University of San Francisco School of Law invites applications for the position of Reference Librarian at the Dorraine Zief Law Library.

Position Description: 

The Reference Librarian will participate in the law library's extensive teaching programs, which will include both guest lectures and semester-long teaching assignments in law librarian-taught courses, including Advanced Legal Research and California Legal Research. The Reference Librarian will participate in the reference desk rotation approximately 10-15 hours per week, which includes one evening rotation per week but currently does not include weekend shifts.  The Reference Librarian will hire, train, and supervise the law library's growing pool of law student research assistants, who furnish research support to the law school's faculty.  As the library's student research assistant program expands, the Reference Librarian will market and promote this research service to the law school's faculty and will assume responsibility for developing policies and procedures for the program. The Reference Librarian will also serve as the chief library liaison for the law school's clinics, advocacy programs, and externship programs and will network with faculty working within these programs to promote the library's services. He or she will also serve as a library liaison to assigned tenure-track faculty, supporting their scholarship and promoting library resources to them, and will assume other duties as assigned by the Law Library Director. This position will report directly to the Law Library Director.  Librarians are encouraged to participate in the American Association of Law Libraries and other law library and professional organizations. 

The successful candidate must have:

·        A JD from an ABA-accredited law school and an MLS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited graduate program.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·        Commitment to dynamic, experiential teaching.

·        Legal research proficiency.

·        A strong commitment to faculty and student research and scholarship, to serving a diverse and vibrant community, and to the University's mission.


California legal research experience, knowledge of Web 2.0 applications, and web editing skills preferred.

     Part-Time Law Librarian 

Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Partner assigned to Library Management, the Librarian is responsible for the daily operation of the law library, including acquisitions, research, circulation, shelving and filing. Duties include: 

·         Log in, process, and route library mail.

·         Maintain library records, including database of holdings, routing lists, payment records, bulk orders, etc.

·         Order books for library, attorneys and paralegals.

·         Obtain requested journal articles, monographs, and serials documents from Boalt Express, Special Libraries Association and Internet sources for paralegals and attorneys.

·         Borrow and arrange interlibrary loans of books from other law libraries in the Bay Area when requested.

Stanford Law School is seeking a motivated, hard-working reference librarian for the Robert Crown Law Library.

The reference librarians provide premier level reference desk service, and librarians receive a flood of requests for assistance from an accomplished faculty and student body.  The reference team collaborates on a wide range of academic projects and instructional resources.

The reference librarians are actively engaged in teaching and comprise the core of the legal research instruction to first year students.  In addition, librarians may opt to teach one or two Advanced Legal Research electives at the Law School.  Advanced research training is offered in a variety of formats, often in small group presentations to doctrinal classes.

DUTIES:

•Provides reference assistance to Law School faculty, staff and students and to other users of the Library.  Responds to reference requests received by personal visit, telephone and e-mail.

•Initiates contact with Law School faculty and staff to determine personal and course-related research needs.  Facilitates reference-on-the-road program created to serve the faculty and staff in their offices and departments.

•Supervises and supports Library Faculty Borrowing and Interlibrary Loan staff.

•Utilizes desktop publishing software to create audience appropriate faculty, staff and student library resource guides.

•Creates, publishes and develops bibliographies, guides and web pages in furtherance of the law library’s research mission.

•Conducts classes on computer assisted legal research, both in groups and individually, including the use of Lexis, Westlaw and other online databases.

Reference librarians are encouraged and supported to seek opportunities for professional growth and education evolvement, both here in the education-rich Bay Area and nationally.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Candidates must have knowledge of basic legal research sources and be skilled at using print and electronic materials.

•Should have a JD and MLS degree, or equivalent law and/or library degree or a related advanced degree. 

•Candidates with 1-3 years relevant experience; teaching experience; and/or basic knowledge of digital resources are also preferred.

THE CALIFORNIA JUDICIAL CENTER LIBRARY
The California Judicial Center Library serves the legal information needs of the justices and staff of the California Supreme Court and the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District; and the staff of the Administrative Office of the Courts. The Library's collection of more than 250,000 volumes is located in San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles. The Assistant Law Librarians are assigned to the San Francisco location, a 45,000 square foot facility located in the Hiram Johnson State Building, 455 Golden Gate Avenue.
Under the direction of the Director, Library Services, the Assistant Law Librarians I perform a full range of professional law library duties associated with the delivery of legal information, including but not limited to:
 - conducting legal research;
 - responding to reference inquiries;
 - providing instruction in the use of electronic and other published resources;
 - conducting library tours and orientations;
 - developing bibliographies and pathfinders;
 - and designing/updating Web-based information resources for the library’s homepage.


RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
Equivalent to possession of a master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution, and two years of professional library experience

Equivalent to possession of a law degree and one year of professional library experience.
Additional directly related experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
